The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Division of Finance and Administrative Affairs is currently seeking to fill six (6) HVAC/Refrigeration Specialist-Advanced vacancies for the Department of Facilities Services.

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor and functioning with a high level of independence and initiative, HVAC Specialists are responsible for the operation and repair of mechanical and HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) equipment in a select group of campus buildings. These positions are responsible for reexamining HVAC standards, practices, and usages on campus; troubleshooting building mechanical problems; identifying, correcting, reporting, and communicating building operational and maintenance needs to other trades and units; performing repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment; and ensuring satisfactory operation of building systems to meet the programmatic and energy conservation needs and objectives of the building.

Our employees perform all their duties in a professional manner, with an emphasis on customer service while also serving as model representatives of the Department of Facility Services, the Division of Finance and Administrative Affairs, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • A minimum of three years professional experience in the HVAC trade;
  • Commercial experience maintaining boilers, chillers, furnaces, and air handlers;
  • A valid Driver license with a driving record that meets the minimum criteria for driving a state vehicle; and
  • The ability to work in various environments without adverse physical reaction (e.g., within confined areas; extreme temperature ranges; in hot, noisy, dirty and/or dust-filled areas; at heights in excess of 30 feet, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications

Highly qualified candidates will also have:

  • An Associate’s degree from a 2-year college or Technical school with a certificate in HVAC and/or similar applicable training as received in a military service school;
  • Leadership experience necessary to train employees, assign work, and ensure tasks are completed in accordance with procedures;
  • Experience with common business productivity software and applications (e.g., MS Office Suite, email, etc.); and
  • Experience programming and/or adjusting electronic environmental control programs (e.g., METASYS).
