The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is a doctoral research-extensive university in the 26-campus University of Wisconsin System all broadly governed by the State’s Board of Regents. The Division of Finance and Administrative Affairs delivers essential business services that provide a foundation for UWM’s student success, research excellence, community engagement, climate and culture, and visibility and image.
The departments in Finance & Administrative Affairs provide a wide array of services to steward and facilitate the management of the university’s primary resources: human capital, finances, facilities, and information technology. FAA staff perform the accounting functions, plan for building construction and remodeling, provide technology infrastructure and enterprise IT services and resources, maintain healthy and safe research environments, provide security and protective services, clean and maintain the campus buildings and grounds, ensure fiscal integrity of campus financial operations, and provide legal advice and representation.

Job Summary

The Director functions as a campus leader, advisor to the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Facilities Planning & Management, and as the campus contact for physical facilities issues.

The Director serves as a model for the entire department by offering excellent service to the campus community, while providing opportunity and environments conducive to promoting the professional development, growth and positive morale of all employees in the department.

The Department of Facility Services is committed to promoting respect and civility in the workplace. Minimum Qualifications

Applicants for this vacancy must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, business or a directly related field AND/OR five years of senior leadership experience in facility operation, maintenance and replacement.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in facility operations, maintenance and replacement
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience successfully motivating and leading staff
Preferred Qualifications

Highly qualified candidates will also have:

  • A Master’s degree in architecture, engineering, business or directly related field
  • A professional engineering license
  • Experience in facility operations, maintenance and replacement in an urban university setting
  • Demonstrated skills in effective management and team building
