The Department of Retail Services is a university run operation consisting of both residential and retail food service units, as well as catering, vending and concessions.

Job Summary

The incumbent will be an Assistant Manager in Palm Gardens restaurant. Palm Gardens is a university ran late night restaurant that provides excellent cuisine in a fun filled tropical environment offering great special events and eating contests. Palm Gardens is conveniently located on the first floor of the Sandburg Residential Hall. The Palm’s experience places an emphasis on providing freshly prepared custom made wraps, salads, shakes, burgers, pizza and specialty made cheese steaks right in front of our customers.

Under the general management of the Food Service Manager, this position will be responsible for the supervision and execution of food service unit during operational hours. This position is responsible for service set up, food presentation, food prep and storage, customer service, and recipe execution. This position may act as a lead worker in all areas as assigned. Other duties may include, training student staff, cooking, leading others in food production and sanitation, assuring the display and pricing of products is attractive, preparing menu items on site using approved recipes and proper timing of production to assure that products are fresh and that waste is minimized. The incumbent will manage all aspects of the unit in the absence of the Palm’s Manager.

This position is a full-time, nine (9) month seasonal appointment, concurrent with the academic year. This seasonal appointment will have the following unpaid work breaks:
Winterim Break 12/23/17 – 1/15/18
Summer Break 5/20/18 – 8/12/18

Hours of position are Tuesday through Saturday 4:00 pm-12:30 am.

Minimum Qualifications

• Previous experience in a food service setting or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in training staff
• Experience working in a concept restaurant environment
• Experience in supervisory and/or lead work functions, such as assigning tasks, in a restaurant or customer service environment
• ServSafe Food Handler or ServSafe Manager Certification or equivalent
