The Children’s Learning Center at UWM is located on campus and serves children ages 6 weeks through 12 years of age. The Center serves the University community with both flexible and full-time schedules. It is a unique and complex program with more than 300 children.

Job Summary

The Lead Teacher is responsible for curriculum, staff performance, environment and communication in a year round, School Age classroom. School Age classrooms operate after school and school closing days during the academic year and full time during the summer. School Age staff may be asked to support other classrooms with children K3-6th grade as needed. The person in this position is responsible for understanding and communicating the needs of children and their families, and the interrelationship between these needs and the Center. Teachers must maintain in-service and continuing education requirements as mandated by state licensing and accreditation. This position is an end of the day position and requires all applicants to be available to work until closing during the academic year (at least 6pm).

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, or related is required upon start date; certification in hands-on Pediatric First Aid, AED and CPR is required upon start date and must be maintained during incumbency.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of two years documented experience teaching children between the ages of eight and twelve years old; Completed coursework in elementary aged education curriculum and/or development; documented experience in a campus child care program.

Evidence of strong communication and organizational skills; Evidence of the ability to work well in a complex, team environment with both professional and student staff; Evidence of a working knowledge of child development; Documented ability to apply knowledge of child development to both curriculum development and its implementation in the classroom; and The ability to understand and communicate children’s development and needs to families.
