FAA staff perform the accounting functions, plan for building construction and remodeling, provide technology infrastructure and enterprise IT services and resources, maintain healthy and safe research environments, provide security and protective services, clean and maintain the campus buildings and grounds, ensure fiscal integrity of campus financial operations, and provide legal advice and representation.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the deputy controller, this position will be responsible for supervising, mentoring, and training the accounting services staff. The Accounting Supervisor will act as a primary back-up to the Deputy Controller.

The incumbent is responsible for initiating, recommending and developing process improvements to ensure Accounting Services operates efficiently and effectively; this position also evaluates, streamlines and documents workflows; helps to plan and assist in implementing information technology and system design.

Accounting Services: manage daily, monthly, and yearly tasks of the central accounting team; interpret UW System and state financial policies; assist with developing and managing UWM financial policies and procedures to adhere and more distinctly define system, state, and federal financial policies and regulations.

Auxiliary accounting: responsible for timely financial reporting; will review and analyze all auxiliary financial reports; prepare and analyze financial reports for large and complex auxiliary units; provide variance and trend reporting to management; meet with financial representatives for auxiliary business units on a regular basis to discuss financial position of the organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants for this position must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited University
  • A minimum of one year experience in a business-related position
  • Evidence of proficiency using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software
  • Evidence of proficiency using Microsoft Excel
  • Leadership experience including training and motivating individuals
Preferred Qualifications

Highly qualified candidates will also have:

  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
  • Evidence of proficiency using PeopleSoft Software
  • An active Certified Public Accountant license
  • A minimum of one year experience in a business-related position at UW Milwaukee
  • A minimum of one year formal supervisory experience (e.g., Interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and/or disciplining subordinates)
  • Experience with process improvement techniques as evidence by specific examples
  • A minimum of five years experience in a professional accounting role with a history of increasing responsibility
