The Department of Retail Services is a university run operation consisting of both residential and retail food service units, as well as 20|20 Catering, vending and concessions.

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Food Service Supervisors, the incumbent will be responsible for the timely preparation of hot and cold food for sales throughout various dining locations and catered events for Retail Services. The incumbent will personally prepare and lead/train other employees in the preparation of hot and cold food according to established recipes. The incumbent will meet production schedules while following safe food handling practices. The incumbent will recommend and prepare special items for catered events and tastings and recommend changes in menus and recipes as necessary. The incumbent will be assigned schedules as necessary to cover the needs of the department and schedules may vary from week to week depending on the events scheduled. This position has a possibility of overtime, and may require ability to work occasional night and weekend hours for special catering events

This position is full-time, nine (9) month seasonal appointment, concurrent with the academic year. This seasonal appointment will have the following unpaid work breaks:
Winterim Break 12/23/17 – 1/15/18
Summer Break 5/20/18 – 8/12/18

Location & Hours: Cook 2- Sandburg Café Breakfast Chef is located at Sandburg Residence Hall, 3400 N. Maryland Ave (On Campus). The standard hours for this position are Tuesday through Friday 6am-2:30pm, and Saturday 10:30am-7pm.

Salary: This position comes with a competitive salary and benefit package. The minimum starting hourly rate is $14.20/hour; the final hourly rate is dependent upon the finalist’s experience, education, qualifications and equity within the department.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least one year of experience preparing food in a commercial kitchen environment

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience in supervisory and/or lead work functions in the kitchen environment (supervision, scheduling, assigning tasks, etc.)
2. Experience in training staff
3. Experience in both hot and cold food production in large volume operation
4. Associates degree or higher in a food service-related field
5. ServSafe Food Handler certification or equivalent
