Open to talented and motivated students in every major and discipline, the Honors College offers the personalized education of a small liberal arts college without sacrificing the unique opportunities available at a major research university. The College does this by providing:
-Individual attention in small seminars taught by faculty members committed to excellence in undergraduate education.
-Opportunities to engage in undergraduate research, either by completing research in Honors or by doing a senior thesis or project.
-Academic advising and support services, including a writing specialist to help students plan, write, and revise essays.
Successful completion of Honors College requirements culminates in an Honors degree, a mark of distinction, which lets prospective employers, and graduate and professional schools know that the student has maintained a consistent record of excellence.

Job Summary

I. Advising (80%)
Advise Honors College students in individual sessions including freshmen, upper-classmen, transfer and non-traditional students from all schools and colleges on campus; work closely with school and college advisors to ensure that students in all majors can fulfill the requirements of the Honors College; learn all the requirements for all majors across campus; attend and periodically represent the Honors College at Advisors and Counselors Network meetings.
II. Student Activities (20%)
Assist in the planning and implementation of the Honors College New Student Orientation, Honors College Graduation Reception, Honors College Student Events, and other events and activities related to Honors College student success.

Minimum Qualifications

1) A completed Bachelor’s Degree (to be earned by the date of hire)
2) At least one year of experience working in higher education with high school students, college students, and parents.

Preferred Qualifications

1) Prior experience in an Honors Program or College
2) Evidence of ability to relate well to people of all ages and backgrounds
3) Evidence of excellent interpersonal communication skills working in a positive and respectful manner
4) Strong written skills, including demonstrated ability to take accurate notes in meetings with students, communicate clearly with students and staff, and prepare written materials for use in advising and general purposes in the Honors College
