The UWM Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) works with faculty and academic staff to facilitate teaching excellence and promote student learning by providing programming, consultation, and support for the effective use of pedagogical strategies and instructional technologies. Job Summary

CETL is looking for a Teaching, Learning, and Technology Assistant with experience using learning technologies, a successful record working with customers, and excellent organizational, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. An ideal candidate would also have teaching experience at the college level, experience with web publishing and media creation, as well as experience with statistics, survey tools, and evidence-based research approaches.

  • Current UWM employees or academic staff who do not hold full time positions and are interested in working 10-20 hours/week

Compensation:

The starting salary (annualized) will be within the $28,011 and $35,014 range, in line with qualifications and relevant experience.

If you already have an academic staff position at UWM, this position offers a 25%-49% appointment with opportunities for contract renewal based on performance and relevant professional growth.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide face-to-face, phone, and email support to instructors seeking assistance with learning technology tools and effective pedagogical strategies
  • Provide administrative support for CETL workshops, conferences, and orientations; duties include registration management, course site creation and enrollment, printing and collating materials, managing guest computer access, location scheduling and configuration

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Revise and edit web-based and print instructional design materials and technical support materials
  • Assist in the development of reports and presentations, including data manipulation and the creation of charts and graphs
  • Assist with CETL marketing efforts, including drafting email announcements, updating website content, and developing print and media materials
  • Attend learning technology support staff meetings to stay informed on CETL policies, support procedures, and technology updates
  • Work with supervisor to create and maintain a professional development plan in order to strategically increase your knowledge and skill as a Teaching, Learning, and Technology Assistant
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the Director or supervisor
Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience using a learning management system (Desire2Learn/Brightspace, Canvas) and learning technologies, such as, student response systems (SRS/clickers), rich digital content (video, audio, images), synchronous tools (web conferencing), and/or ePortfolios
  • A successful record providing client services, support, or sales
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Required Skills:

  • Effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including adaptability, self-discipline, and enthusiasm
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, focused on attention to detail, clarity, and accuracy
  • Demonstrated passion for improving teaching and learning for students
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree
  • Experience teaching at the college level
  • Experience consulting with instructors on course design and learning technologies
  • Experience with web publishing, including WordPress and basic programming languages, such as HTML and CSS
  • Experience creating print and media materials, preferably using Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premier)
  • Experience with statistical analysis, survey tools (e.g. Qualtrics), and familiarity with evidence-based research approaches
