Job Summary

The Major Giving Specialist at WUWM is responsible for raising financial support that is substantial in size and has a permanent impact on the station’s future.

The Major Giving Specialist will:

 Identify and solicit donors and foundations for significant gifts to WUWM. Manage a portfolio of donors/foundations and prospects, with an annual revenue goal for operations and special initiatives.
 Identify, solicit and complete grant proposals to foundations for significant gifts to WUWM. Mange grant cycles to ensure compliance of foundation submission, acknowledgement and reporting requirements.
 Qualify individuals as major, principal or planned gift prospects through direct contact (telephone and in person visits)
 Manage a comprehensive planned giving program, which includes bequests, life income plans, retained life estate provisions and other appropriate options.
 Work with the General Manager and Membership Manager to develop programs and strategies to identify, cultivate, track and solicit significant gifts.
 Serve as a contact with WUWM Advisory Board members for the development of additional fund opportunities, events or strategy implementation.
 Coordinate deferred and major giving with University administration to ensure compliance with governmental regulations and University policies.
 Participate in station outreach activities.
 Perform other development activities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree granted by date of hire
• Minimum of 5 years related work experience in development.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in direct, personal major donor solicitation.
• Must be knowledgeable about successful fund raising practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Must be able to represent WUWM in a professional manner with donors including strong verbal and written communications skills.
• Proven track record of achieving revenue targets.
• Proven success in high-level annual giving and securing gifts from individuals and foundations.
• Must have strong computer proficiency with databases and be detail orientated.
